Zurich names a new head for its global divison in Hong Kong, while Switzerland's EFG appoints a chief executive in Singapore. The Guernsey regulator hires a new lawyer to its decision’s panel, and BMO expands its European sales team.

PEOPLE MOVES: Zurich, EFG, Rathbones

Zurich Insurance Group

Zurich Insurance Hong Kong has promoted Philip Chiu to be the head of global corporate division. His responsibilities will include expanding the insurer’s existing product offering and propositions.

He will report directly to Keith Thomas, the chief executive of global corporate for Asia Pacific.

Chiu joined Zurich in 2014 as the head of financial lines, having previously served as general manager of startup underwriting agency Dual Hong Kong.

With more than 20 years of underwriting experience under his belt, Chui started his career in AIG where he worked for 10 years.

EFG Asset Management

Switzerland’s EFG Asset Management has hired Rebekah Chuan as chief executive and head of investment of its Singapore business, as part of a wider move to expand into Asia.

Based in Singapore, Chuan will be responsible for developing the company’s investment products range.

She previously worked at DBS, where she spent the past five years building the company’s discretionary portfolio management platform.

With over 27 years in the investment industry, Chuan did a 10-year stint as the Singapore-based head of discretionary at HSBC (Suisse) Private Bank, as well as several senior roles at Newton Investment Management, Axa Asset Management and Aviva Investors.

Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC)

The Guernsey Financial Services Commission has appointed Kirsty Hood to its panel of senior decision makers.

A member of the Scottish bar, Hood specialises in civil litigation.

Established last year, the panel – comprising of seven lawyers - hear cases involving serious allegations against a licensee or individual directors where those findings are contested by the licensee. 

After presiding over the cases, the panel then has the power to punish licensees found guilty by issuing fines and bans from working in the industry.

BMO Asset Management

Alfredo Uras has been named the as a new sales executive as part of a recruitment drive to expand BMO Asset Management European team.

According to the company, Uras will provide support its distribution capabilities across institutional and wholesale channels in Italy. He will report to Giampaolo Giannelli, head of sales Italy, and will be based in Milan.

Prior to his appointment, Uras worked at Pioneer Investments for more than a decade as a senior portfolio analyst

The hire coincided with other senior sales appointments after BMO opened offices in Italy, Spain, Sweden and France as the asset manager looks to expand its European operations.

Rathbones

Rathbone Brothers has hired its second HSBC Global Asset Management director in the past week.

Martha Back has been named as investment director, tasked with handling investments for private individuals, pensions and family trusts as well as focusing on the management of multi-asset investment portfolios.

She joins former colleague Henry Donne, who was appointed investment director earlier this month.

Back began her career on Cazenove Capital’s graduate training programme, before joining HSBC’s discretionary wealth division where she was subsequently promoted to director.
