Gibraltar’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) has issued a warning in relation to Unique Car Insurance, a website offering short-term motor insurance to UK drivers under the age of 21.

According to the FSC, the website states that: “Unique Car Insurance 17+ is Limited company who are [sic] authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Commission in Gibraltar.”

However, the FSC does not regulate Unique Car Insurance. Neither is the website licensed under the Financial Services (Investment & Fiduciary Services) Act 1989, nor under the Financial Services (Insurance Companies) Act 1987, to conduct insurance business in or from Gibraltar.

In addition, Unique Car Insurance is not a Gibraltar registered company, or a trading name registered under the Business Names Registration Act, it said.

The FSC has advised any persons involved in dealings with Unique Car Insurance to contact its manager of enforcement on (+350) 200 40283 or by email at enforcement@fsc.gi.

A list of regulated entities in Gibraltar is available on the FSC website.
