International expatriate insurance specialist William Russell has expanded its health, life and income protection plans to Abu Dhabi under a new partnership.

Its Global Health, Life and Income Protection insurance plans have been widely available in the United Arab Emirates, but strict health insurance regulations meant that they were not eligible for sale in Abu Dhabi.

Now the underwriter of the plans in the UAE region, the Dubai Insurance Company (DIC), has licensed them to be provided as part of an employee benefit scheme for companies in Abu Dhabi.

The DIC partnership with William Russell means companies in Abu Dhabi can provide these benefits to their employees, the company said, adding that the plans have also been authorised by Health Authority Abu Dhabi, in line with local regulations.

Colin Ward, sales director for the Middle East region, said the aim is to offer an attractive package of international health, life and income protection plans with minimal restrictions and worldwide cover.

Abdellatif Abuqurah, the chief executive officer of DIC, said that traditionally it has been difficult to secure such a wide range of cover from one insurer.

He expects the plans to appeal to larger corporate clients who want to provide their senior executives with high value, international protection, and to smaller employers seeking a range of benefits such as health, travel, personal accident, group life and long-term disability insurance cover.
