Pictet AM adds Asian market neutral fund

By Kirsten Hastings, 30 Nov 15

Pictet Asset Management has expanded its Total Return fund range with the launch of PTR-Phoenix, an equity market neutral fund investing in Asia.

Pictet Asset Management has expanded its Total Return fund range with the launch of PTR-Phoenix, an equity market neutral fund investing in Asia.

PTR-Phoenix, which is UCITS IV compliant, is managed out of Singapore by a three-member team led by James Kim, who has more than 20 years’ experience investing in Asian equities.

The fund is currently registered for sale in Austria, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, and Germany.

Structural themes

The fund managers identify leading structural themes in Asia – such as the surge in Chinese tourists to Japan or Hong Kong’s retail woes – and assess their impact on industries and companies.

“As Asian equity markets have expanded and liquidity has improved, the region now makes a market neutral long/short investment strategy a viable and attractive proposition.”

Each theme is then expressed through a combination of long and short positions with the aim of neutralising market risk and generating alpha.

Viable and attractive

“As Asian equity markets have expanded and liquidity has improved, the region now makes a market neutral long/short investment strategy a viable and attractive proposition,” said Kim.

PTR-Phoenix is the sixth fund to be launched as part of Pictet Asset Management’s Total Return fund range, joining Kosmos (global long/short credit), equity long/short funds Corto Europe (Europe mid-caps) and Mandarin (Greater China), and market neutral funds Agora (Europe long/short), and Diversified Alpha (multi-strategy).
