Uli Hoeness, the president of Uefa Champions League winners Bayern Munich, has been charged with tax evasion by German prosecutors.

Uli Hoeness, the president of Uefa Champions League winners Bayern Munich, has been charged with tax evasion by German prosecutors.

The Munich prosecution office charged the football boss over an undeclared bank account in Switzerland earlier today and it is now up to the economic crimes chamber of Munich’s district court to decide whether to admit the charges and conduct a trial.

Lawyers acting for Hoeness have been given one month to respond to the charges.

Hoeness is not the first high profile person in the football world to have faced tax evasion charges. Last year, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp was cleared of tax evasion charges and last month accusations were levelled at Argentinean striker Messi that he had evaded around €4m in tax.
