Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners steps in to help with dispute litigation

7 Sep 11

Step has created a course to help advisers deal with trust disputes and litigation.

Step has created a course to help advisers deal with trust disputes and litigation.

The organisation – the professional body for those involved in the trust sector – said it had designed the course to help those involved in the creation and administration of trusts to “anticipate, and thereby avoid, the common pitfalls which can lead to trust litigation.”

David Harvey, Step chief executive, said: “We are running this course to arm advisers with a recognised qualification that will enhance their ability to deliver sound, consistent and holistic advice to clients on dispute resolution issues and help them build towards being a true trusted advisor.”

The qualification is run through distance learning and will, according to Step, “address many of the permutations involved in trust disputes and will provide the busy practitioner with a practical overview of the themes commonly encountered and an understanding of the overarching principles.”

Step said the course was designed for trust officers, directors, private client lawyers, those involved in pension trusts, contentious lawyers who act for trustees or beneficiaries, or lawyers who advise trustees’ professional indemnity insurers.

Applications to enrol in the course – which is available on a worldwide basis – close on May 30th.
