HSBC Private Bank has appointed Bernard Rennell to the newly created position of chief executive for North Asia, subject to regulatory approval.

Rennell joined HSBC in Asia Pacific in July 2000 as head of Bank of Bermuda’s Private Wealth Services in Hong Kong and was appointed global head of Private Wealth Solutions in 2009. In his new role, Rennell will be responsible for all private banking activity for HSBC Private Bank in North Asia, including Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines. Bernard will be based in Hong Kong.

Krishna Patel, global CEO of HSBC Private Bank said: “North Asia, and in particular Hong Kong, is a key strategic location for the group and Bernard’s experience of working with ultra high net worth families and his knowledge of the local market will be important in further building HSBC Private Bank’s strong position in the territory.”
