BNPIP Equity World Aqua gets new sterling share class

By Sam Shaw, 4 Mar 16

BNP Paribas Investment Partners has launched a sterling share class for its L1 Equity World Aqua Fund in response to greater demand from UK institutional and wholesale clients.

BNP Paribas Investment Partners has launched a sterling share class for its L1 Equity World Aqua Fund in response to greater demand from UK institutional and wholesale clients.

A sub-fund of the Luxembourg SICAV and managed by Impax Asset Management, the fund invests in international equities with exposure to the water sector value chain.

Holdings will include companies operating in the construction, renovation and maintenance of water supply facilities, technologies and systems for water treatment and decontamination, as well as those providing services to local authorities.

Water resource

Hubert Aarts, fund manager at Impax Asset Management, said: “As population growth and higher living standards lead to increased water consumption, there is growing demand for water, which is a finite resource.

“Meanwhile severe weather events are exacerbating the gap between supply and demand, requiring considerable investment in more effective solutions in infrastructure, treatment and distribution.  We believe this is a multi-decade growth opportunity.”

Around 45 names will comprise the portfolio, with roughly 20% of the assets invested in companies operating in developing markets.
