Schroders launches ‘daily-dealing’ Ucits fund

Schroders has added to its range of liquid hedge funds with the launch of a fund managed by former Soros Fund Management employee, Robert Donald.

The Schroder Gaia Helix fund is a daily-dealing Ucits vehicle containing long/short and long-only alpha equity strategies.

It sits on the asset manager’s multi-strategy Gaia platform which contains eight other funds representing about $6.5bn (£5bn, €5.7bn) in assets under management.

Donald is a former employee of Man GLG and George Soros’s hedge fund-turned-family-office, Soros Fund Management, which he joined in 2009 as a portfolio manager.

He went on to work at Stora Capital in 2013 before moving to Brummer & Partners where he was a portfolio manager. He joined Schroders in January 2017.

On the Helix fund, Donald will seek to diversify across credit, fixed income and foreign exchange, supported by the Helix investment team. The team will allocate capital to the fund’s underlying investment sleeves managed by Schroders’ investment professionals.

Donald said: “Helix will bring a strong and attractive blend of Schroders’ alpha-generating investment expertise to investors. The fund has been designed for investors looking to access multi-strategy funds that aim to offer consistent and attractive returns with low correlations to markets.

“Growing Schroders’ alternatives and hedge fund capabilities are strategic objectives for the firm. We believe we are well positioned to draw on a strong pool of investment talent to deliver a highly differentiated product for the ultimate benefit of our clients.”
