Blackrock veteran joins the Swiss asset manager, deputy chair named at pension scams group

GAM

Peter Sanderson has been hired as group chief executive, effective from 1 September 2019 pending regulatory approvals.

His arrival follows a tumultuous period for the Swiss asset manager, which saw bond manager Tim Haywood sacked after an internal whistleblower raised concerns.

Sanderson, who has a big task ahead of him to get Gam back on track, spent the last decade at Blackrock.

He held several senior roles at the US asset management firm; such as head of financial services consulting, Emea; co-head of multi-asset investment solutions in Emea; and chief operating officer for Blackrock Solutions in Emea.

In addition, Hugh Scott-Barrett will step down as chairman of the board of directors from 1 October 2019, but will remain a board member until the company’s next annual general meeting.

David Jacob will succeed him. Jacob has been part of the board since 2017, and is currently serving as interim chief executive until Sanderson steps in.

PSIG

The Pension Scams Industry Group has named Tommy Burns as deputy chair, effective from 29 July 2019.

He has been involved in the voluntary industry body since its inception in 2014 and is currently serving as chair of the organisation’s Pension Scams Industry Forum.

He is also a risk and incident manager at Standard life, where he has been since 2012.

Columbia Threadneedle

The global asset manager has hired Stuart Jarvis as senior research director, based in London.

He spent 15 years of his career at Blackrock where he was latterly a managing director in the Portfolio Research Group within the Blackrock Investment Institute.

Jarvis will be part of the global investment solutions team which is responsible for researching, designing and delivering customised investment solutions to the firm’s clients.

Dunhill Financial

Diane Van Nostrand has joined Dunhill Financial as a member of the board of directors.

She has spent the last nine years at Citigroup Global where she served as a market manager in northern California and Nevada within its wealth management unit.

Department for Work and Pensions

Guy Opperman has been re-appointed as minister for pensions and financial inclusion after Boris Johnson succeeded Theresa May to head the UK government.

He has been in the role since June 2017.

Dolfin

The independent wealth manager has named Richard Webb as head of technology.

In the newly created role, he will be responsible for the firm’s technological strategy and leading its digital wealth management platform offering.

He was previously a consultant and has led teams at RBS Global Banking, UBS Investment Bank and Accenture.

Webb had been working with Dolfin on a consultancy basis since 2018.

VP Bank

The Liechtenstein-based bank has appointed Thomas Jost as head of intermediaries in its Singapore branch.

He will join the firm on 1 August 2019, subject to official approval.

Jost has been in Singapore since 2011, when he joined Julius Baer as an executive director and team head EAM Asia, then moving to EFG Private bank in 2018 taking on the role of head of IAM business development and senior vice president.
