US investment manager enters UK retail space

By Cristian Angeloni, 4 Sep 19

After signing a distribution agreement with London-based wealth firm

Wellington Management has expanded its investment offering to the UK market by opening its products to financial advisers.

It has reached a distribution agreement with wealth manager Raymond James, where the UK company’s advisers will be able to access Wellington’s products; which include equity, fixed income, alternatives and multi-asset.

This is a first for the US firm as, up until now, its investment vehicles were only available to institutional clients in the UK.

The agreement gives Raymond James’ advisers access to Wellington’s Ucits fund range.

Focus on fintech

Matt Knight, head of UK distribution at Wellington, said: “The UK wealth market is an important strategic focus for Wellington, and partnering with Raymond James will make our Ucits fund offering available to a wider range of clients as we look to expand our distribution.”

Stuart Wright, head of Raymond James’s operations and product management, said: “We are pleased to be one of the first platforms in the UK to partner with Wellington.

“We offer the wealth managers who work with us access to a diverse range of investment products, and we believe that Wellington’s history and approach really sets them apart.

“In particular, given the growing fintech investment landscape, the Wellington Fintech Fund is a welcome pure-play fintech solution.

“Our parent company, Raymond James Financial, and its US subsidiaries, already have a strong, long-standing relationship with Wellington.”
