Hermes CEO recognised in New Year’s Honours List

With Hong Kong businessman given a CBE for services to trade and investment

Saker Nusseibeh, chief executive of Hermes Investment Management, has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of his services to responsible business and finance.

Government departments and members of the public submit nominations for those they believe should be recognised for their exceptional achievement or service.

Only British nationals or citizens of the 15 Commonwealth realms can be considered.

Hong Kong investment

The chairman of First Eastern Investment Group, Victor Lap-Lik Chu, was awarded a CBE on the diplomatic service and overseas list.

Based in Hong Kong, he was recognised for his services to trade and investment.

First Eastern offers wealth and financial planning advice to high net worth individuals, expat professionals and business owners.

Impressive showing

Other notable financial services names on the 1,000-strong list include:

Ross McEwan (CBE) – outgoing chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The New Zealander is due to become group chief executive and managing director of National Australia Bank (NAB) before April 2020.

Roy Lewis (Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)) – HSBC – for services to financial inclusion.

He spearheaded the rollout of Dementia Friends training to staff to protect vulnerable customers and their carers, as well as financial services employees.

Alison Brenchley (Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)) – group director, Nationwide Building Society – for services to financial services and diversity.

Gillian Guy (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) – chief executive of Citizens Advice – for services to the public and voluntary sectors.
