It will offer investment services to private clients, fiduciaries and family offices

Jersey regulator disappointed with suitability review outcome

The former chief executive of Brooks Macdonald International (BMI) has opened a private client asset management business based in Jersey.

Darren Zaman, who left BMI in March 2019, has set up Westminster Asset Management, according to a statement on his Linkedin profile.

The firm will offer investment services to private clients, fiduciaries, family offices and their advisers.

The asset management service will focus on a number of fixed income, equity and multi-asset solutions.

Westminster Asset Management’s first clients will come on board over the course of June.

Management team

According to the firm’s website, Zaman will be chief executive and chief investment officer of Westminster Asset Management.

The rest of the business will be made up of:

  • Peter Lucas, investment strategist – he has 30 years’ experience in the sector with roles at Ashburton, RBC and Rathbones;
  • Jonathan Overland, investment director – he was previously a founder and senior director of Stanhope Capital’s Jersey office;
  • Gary Briggs, investment manager – he has been working with direct investments since 2016. Prior to this, Briggs started his professional career with KPMG providing US, UK and Jersey tax compliance and advice to individuals, multinational corporates and funds;
  • Paul Soares, head of operations – Soares’ previous roles include business development director at LGT Vestra Jersey and head of investor solutions at Brooks Macdonald following the acquisition of DPZ Capital;
  • Claire Southam, head of compliance – she has worked in the finance industry for over 26 years, including at AIB Bank and Capita Fiduciary Group; and
  • Richard Luke, non-executive director – outside of this role, Luke’s primary role is as a director of WGT, which manages the Jersey-based Westminster Group.
