By Laura Purkess, 17 Mar 26

This week includes a major announcement from Aberdeen’s adviser business and a high-profile appointment for Paradigm Norton

We compile the latest appointments and reshuffles in the wealth management space every week. This week includes a major announcement from Aberdeen’s adviser business and a high-profile appointment for Paradigm Norton.

Aberdeen Adviser

Aberdeen Adviser’s CEO Noel Butwell has decided to step down from his role after 20 years, and will be leaving Aberdeen in the coming months.

Noel first joined the business in 2003 before becoming CEO of Adviser when it was established as a separate business unit in 2019.

Commenting on his decision, Butwell said: “Having spent more than two decades helping the business grow and adapt for the next generation, I have decided now is the right time for me to move on.”

Anderson Strathern Asset Management

Anderson Strathern Asset Management (ASAM) has named Arlene Ewing as managing director as it looks to expand its services across Scotland.

Ewing was formerly the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment’s (CISI) president for Scotland and won CISI Mentor of the Year in 2025. In her new role, Ewing will oversee ASAM’s dual-led model combining financial planning and discretionary fund management.

Ewing said: “It is an exciting time to join Anderson Strathern Asset Management, an independent Scottish firm that has the enviable power to put its clients and people at the heart of its services in terms of the advisory offering and its expertise across Anderson Strathern specialisms.”

Bordier & Cie UK

Wealth and investment manager Bordier & Cie UK has nabbed Aberdeen’s Jason Day as head of fund research.

He was previously a senior investment manager at Aberdeen, specialising in fund research, manager selection, investment strategy and model portfolio construction, having joined the firm in 2011.

In his new role, which takes effect on 1 April, Day will work alongside CIO Mark Robinson and other members of the investment committee on investment strategy, asset allocation and portfolio construction.

Paradigm Norton Financial Planning

Paradigm Norton Financial Planning has appointed Caroline Rainbird as a non-executive director.

She brings a wealth of experience from nearly 40-years in financial services, including a stint as the CEO of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

She currently holds a number of non-executive roles, including serving on the Trustee Board of the NatWest Group Pension Fund and the Standard Life Group With-Profits Committee.

Philippa Hann, CEO at Paradigm Norton, said: “As we look to expand and increase our client base, Caroline’s expertise will be invaluable in ensuring the organisation’s internal structures and governance remain robust enough to scale efficiently and securely, effectively creating the solid operational platform needed for the new strategy to become a reality.”

Stonehage Fleming

Advice firm Stonehage Fleming has appointed Gerrit Smit, founder and lead portfolio manager of the $4bn group’s Global Best Ideas Equity Strategy (GBI), as chairman of the group’s global equity management business and its investment committee.

Carolyn Bell, currently deputy portfolio manager of GBI, will succeed Smit as lead portfolio manager, assuming responsibility for the day-to-day management of the fund and other collective vehicles with the same investment strategy.
