PEOPLE MOVES: Sanlam, RBC Wealth Management, Deutsche Bank

South African firm reshuffles management team, wealth manager hires executive director in Singapore

Sanlam

The South African financial services giant has made a range of appointments to its management team.

These appointments are:

  • Jurie Strydom, currently chief executive of Sanlam Personal Finance, has been appointed chief executive of the newly established life and savings cluster;
  • Kanyisa Mkhize has been appointed chief executive of Sanlam Corporate;
  • Bongani Madikiza, currently the chief executive of African Rainbow Life, has been named chief executive of SA retail mass which comprises Sanlam Sky, Safrican and African Rainbow Life;
  • Anton Gildenhuys, currently the chief risk officer and chief actuary, has been appointed chief executive of SA retail affluent;
  • Mlondolozi Mahlangeni has been named chief risk officer and chief actuary with effect from 14 September 2020;
  • Karl Socikwa, currently the chief executive of Sanlam Sky, becomes group executive of market development; and
  • Wikus Olivier, currently the acting chief financial officer, has been appointed group executive of Strategy from 01 October 2020.

RBC Wealth Management

The wealth firm has named Jason Tong as executive director in its private banking team in Singapore.

He joins from Bank Pictet & Cie (Asia), where he was a senior banker overseeing client relationships focused around China markets.

Tong will provide advice and wealth management solutions to Singaporean and Chinese clients and families that have ties globally, especially to Canada, the US and the UK.

Deutsche Bank

The banking group has named Huynh Buu Quang as acting chief country officer in Vietnam.

This is pending State Bank of Vietnam approval.

Carrick Wealth

The wealth firm has named Jessica Carroll as operations manager based at its head office in Cape Town.

She joins Carrick from State Street, where she held the position of client service officer (senior team lead) in their branch in Gdansk, Poland to which she had relocated from Cape Town.

Aegon Asset Management

The firm has appointed Stephen Dougherty as global head of product.

Dougherty has over 25 years’ experience in investment management and joins AAM from Voya Investment Management, where he worked from 2007.

Pacific Asset Management

Will Thompson has joined the investment firm as portfolio manager with a focus on its multi-asset SRI funds.

He joins from HSBC Global Asset Management, where he had worked as a senior portfolio manager on the multi-asset team since 2014.

JP Morgan

Former UK chancellor Sajid Javid has re-joined the banking group as senior adviser on its advisory council for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Javid left as chancellor in February after refusing to sack his advisers.

The bank said the work wouldn’t interfere with his duties as a member of parliament.

He worked for JP Morgan in the 1990s in New York before moving to Deutsche Bank.

Independent Wealth Planners

The IFA firm has hired Gemma Godfrey as non-executive director overseeing investment management and consumer insight.

In the newly created role, Godfrey will chair IWP’s group investment management division.

She was the founder and chief executive of online personal finance firm Moola.

Stellar Asset Management

The inheritance tax and estate planning specialist asset manager has appointed Stephen English as its inaugural in-house AIM fund manager and Phil Kirwan as AIM portfolio manager.

Both join from Blankstone Sington, the Liverpool-based stockbroker and investment manager.

Hargreaves Lansdown

The UK-based firm has hired Susannah Streeter as senior investment and market analyst.

She joins from the BBC, where she has spent the last 15 years presenting business news across various programmes and channels including World Business Report, Business Matters, BBC Breakfast, Newsnight and the BBC Budget programme.

In her role, Streeter will produce analysis and commentary across a broad range of subjects including stocks, financial markets and economics.
