PEOPLE MOVES: Coutts, Tilney Smith & Williamson, HSBC

Private bank recruits head of international, while wealth manager makes a quartet of hires

Coutts

The wealth manager and private bank has hired Paul Bagatelas as head of international.

He joins from Aviatrans, a global consultancy in aircraft management and markets, where he was responsible for managing and advising on investments for a private family office, as well as structuring and negotiating the group’s potential partnerships.

During his more than 30-year career, Bagateles has worked in private and institutional wealth management, including launching The Carlyle Group’s first ever office in Dubai.

Tilney Smith & Williamson

Chris Grigg has been named chair designate and will join the groups board with immediate effect. Following FCA approvals, he will succeed Will Samuel as chair.

Grigg is already chair of the newly formed UK Infrastructure Bank and is senior independent director at BAE Systems. From 2009 until November 2020, he was chief executive of British Land. Prior to that he was chief executive of Barclays’ Commercial Bank. He also spent almost 20 years at Goldman Sachs.

In a further appointment, the wealth management group named Rayhan Ghandi as an investment director based in its Guildford office. He joins from Charles Stanley.

Additionally, Gavin Hill and Jonathan Buttress have joined Tilney Smith & Williamson’s IFA business from Quilter Cheviot to focus on business development for the Midlands and East Anglia, respectively.

HSBC Global Private Banking

London-based Rob Embury has been named head of collaboration, Emea; while Dubai-based Gemma Wild becomes head of collaboration for Mena.

HSBC said the newly created head of collaboration roles are aimed at adding value to group connected clients as they look to grow and protect their wealth and plan for intergenerational transfers.

In a further move, Kevin Herbert has been appointed head of global private banking, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

Charles Stanley

The wealth manager has named David Pederson as director of investment management services (IMS) – branches.

He joins from Brown Shipley where he was head of international office. In a previous role, Pederson was at Lloyds Banking Group where he ran multiple branches local director the North region.

Reporting to Ian Sackfield, managing director of IMS, Pederson will be based in Manchester.

Natixis Investment Managers

Nathalie Wallace has become global head of sustainable investing at the asset manager. She joins Natixis from Mirova US.

She assumes responsibility for driving the firm’s ESG commitments across its distribution network and affiliate managers, and as part of industry-wide initiatives.

Wallace will report to Joseph Pinto, head of distribution for Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Asia Pacific, Natixis Investment Managers and be based in Boston.

Rathbones

The investment manager has hired Kazuki Shaw as a junior ESG analyst to support the wider team on its stewardship projects and to scale up its voting and engagement activities.

He joins from HSBC where he worked in a sales and trading role on the global futures desk.

Shaw’s appointment follows the arrival of Andrea Marandino, who joined in the newly created role of ESG and stewardship analyst. She was previously sustainable finance and corporate risk manager at WWF UK.

Indosuez Wealth Management

Timothy Tsang joins as head of investment solutions and deputy head of markets, investment & structuring at Indosuez’s Hong Kong branch.

Reporting to Arjan de Boer, head of markets, investment & structuring Asia, Tsang will be responsible for strengthening the bank’s investment advisory capabilities.

He was previously at Nomura Wealth Management, where he was managing director and head of investment advisory and products, solutions & client experience.

Citi Private Bank

Former Credit Suisse managing director Lillian Liao is to join Citi as a global market manager for China at the end of August.

Based in Singapore, Liao will report to Rudolf Hitsch, Citi Private Bank North Asia head and Lee Lung-Nien, Citi Private Bank chairman and South Asia head.

She will manage a team of private bankers who serve Chinese entrepreneurs in Singapore.

Brewin Dolphin

The firm has appointed Don Percival as a wealth director within its ‘1762’ team, which provides bespoke wealth advisory services and diverse investment solutions for clients with more complex financial requirements.

During his career, Percival spent 23 years in private banking, both as client practitioner and manager, most recently in London.

Saltus Asset Management

The former chief executive of Waverton Investment Management and Kames Capital, Andrew Fleming, has been named chair of Saltus.

He will take on the newly created role to lead the firm’s investment arm to support its ambitions to strengthen the investment proposition and accelerate growth.

Progeny

Carla Langley has been appointed to the newly created role of head of proposition. She joins from business and compliance consultancy firm Threesixty Services.

In her latest role, Langley will be responsible for developing Progeny’s selection of professional services. She has been tasked with unifying the client journey and will lead the development of an aligned client proposition across the business.

Titanbay

The private markets investment platform has named Alex Bozoglou as head of investments. He will lead on fund selection and portfolio construction.

He joins from Adams Street Partners where he worked across all aspects of the investment decision-making process in the primary investment team.
