Ex-Fry Group and EY duo set up expat advisory firm in Singapore

By Robbie Lawther, 9 Mar 22

Clients often find that ‘recommendations usually end up in some kind of product sell, which is off-putting’

Spice Advisory has launched in Singapore as a professional services network focused around serving British expats across Asia.

The firm is also looking to serve clients who wish to migrate to or invest in the UK.

It will offer expats advice on a range of issues including tax, property, investing, immigration and debt financing.

Spice Advisory is the lead and managing business of the Spice Advisory network of companies, operating under the Spice brand.

The taxation, estate management, development capital and lifestyle businesses are fully operational with immigration and debt advisory businesses due to be launched later in 2022.

Management

The founders, Mark Buchan and Martin Rimmer, are both long-term expats with almost 50 years of combined experience of providing professional services.

Rimmer was previously head of tax in Singapore for The Fry Group and was also head of tax at St James’s Place partner firm Select Investors.

Buchan was previously a partner in banking and capital markets at EY Singapore, as well as a managing partner of advisory at Grant Thornton Singapore.

They said in a joint statement: “As British expatriates ourselves, we wanted to create a range of services which stand separately to and independent from the wealth management, property sales and insurance industries.

“For example, we know that clients often find that tax, structuring and insurance recommendations usually end up in some kind of product sell, which is off-putting.

“So, we wanted to create a network which focuses solely upon advice and is entirely unconflicted, so that clients can be sure that they are receiving the best impartial advice which stands in their very best interests.”
