St James’s Place partner firm buys advice company

By Robbie Lawther, 11 Oct 22

‘As we grow, it’s really important we work with people who share our values and priorities’

In-house M&A deals at St James’s Place (SJP) show no sign of stopping as Somerset-headquartered Cooper Associates Wealth Management has acquired Barnstaple-based Pengilly Cox Financial Associates for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2014, Pengilly Cox is a financial advice firm with 50 years of combined experience. The firm will become part of Cooper Associates Wealth Management.

Founders Beverley Pengilly and Stephen Cox as well as Vanessa Coe and Helena Standen will join the company.

Cooper Associates Wealth Management is the wealth management division of Cooper Associates Group, which also offers mortgage advice and accounting services.

Samantha Jackson, chief executive of Cooper Associates Group, said: “There was an instant synergy between ourselves and Pengilly Cox. Founders Beverley Pengilly and Stephen Cox reject the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to financial advice, in keeping with how we operate. Everything they do is client-centric which complements us perfectly.

“As we grow, it’s really important we work with people who share our values and priorities. That’s exactly why we chose Pengilly Cox.”

SJP partner firms M&A activity

Since the start of 2022, International Adviser has reported on six deals between SJP partner firms.

The latest one was in September, when the advice arm of Scottish law firm Gilson Gray acquired North Berwick-based Wallace Financial Planning for an undisclosed sum.

IA also interviewed SJP partner firm Tweed Wealth Management about its acquisition plans across Scotland.
