fullerton strengthens equity investment team

Fullerton Fund Management has strengthened its equities investments team with three key hires and also has plans to launch new funds.

Fullerton Fund Management has strengthened its equities investments team with three key hires and also has plans to launch new funds.

Jason Zhu joins Fullerton as head of China equities, replacing Grace Lu who left the company last year.

With 15 years of experience to date, Zhu comes from Franklin Templeton Sealand Fund Management in Shanghai, where he was head of equity investment for last ten years. Based in Shanghai, he will be responsible for leading the China A equities research team.

Ian McCallum will be leading the firm’s new global emerging markets equities strategy. McCallum has more than 20 years of investment experience worked previously with Bedlam Asset Management in London as chief investment officer and lead manager of their GEM strategy.

“With Asia accounting for two-thirds of most GEM indices, broadening our reach into the emerging market space is a natural extension of our core Asia investment capabilities,” Manraj Sekhon, chief executive and chief investment officer at Fullerton said in a statement.

Craig Mitchell is another key appointment, joining Fullerton to develop an Asia absolute return equity strategy. Mitchell has more than 20 years of investment experience and joins from Capital Group where he took on various portfolio management and research roles in Tokyo, Los Angeles and Singapore. Mitchell was also previously a co-founder and portfolio manager at Stewart Asia.

The company has been on an expansion spree, recently setting up an office in Tokyo to further business development and better service clients and partners in Japan. Fullerton is also in the process of establishing an office in London, which will be its first outside of Asia. This follows the recent agreement between UK and Singapore to deepen their financial and economic cooperation, while boosting the Renminbi market.

Recently, it also launched Asia-focussed short-duration fixed income fund.

Headquartered in Singapore, Fullerton Fund Management is an Asia and emerging market investment specialist, supported by offices in China and Japan. Prior to its establishment in 2003, the fund management team operated as an in-house fund management division of Temasek Holdings.
