PEOPLE MOVES: Architas, Julius Baer, AllianzGI

By Kirsten Hastings, 26 May 16

Architas has named a Barclays managing director and chief investment officer as its new chief investment officer, while Julius Baer has added an executive director to its Guernsey team. AllianzGI is strengthening their alternatives pillar, with L&G bidding farewell to its chairman.

Architas

Jaime Arguello has been named chief investment officer of Axa Group’s Architas. He joins from Barclays where he is currently managing director and chief investment officer for their multi manager and alternatives business.

Prior to Barclays, Arguello spend 10 years at Pictet as director of third party manager selection and head of fixed income.

Julius Baer

The Swiss private banking group has added Derek Beatty to its Guernsey team as executive director and senior portfolio manager. He spent the last 11 years at Credit Suisse where he was a member of the region UK investment committee.

He brings with him 14 years’ industry experience, having managed portfolios in Guernsey, London, and Australia.

Allianz Global Investors

Deborah Zurkow, chief investment officer and head of infrastructure debt, is to take on a new, broader role and become head of the alternatives pillar within its global investment platform. Zurkow will join AllianzGI’s global executive committee effective 1 June.

As head of alternatives, she will lead the continued build out of AllianzGI’s alternatives capability, which comprises a diverse mix of both liquid and illiquid alternative investment solutions for clients.

Legal & General

Chairman John Stewart is to retire from his role and step down from the Legal & General board, effective from 1 June 2016.

Stewart had informed the board last November of his intention to retire during 2016 following the identification and appointment of a successor, with the search well advanced and an announcement expected in the coming weeks.

Pending the successor chair taking up their appointment, Rudy Markham, vice chairman, will assume the role of interim chair of Legal & General. He currently chairs the remuneration committee and is the company’s senior independent director.

Invesco Perpetual

Thomas Moore has been appointed to join Invesco’s Henley Fixed Interest investment team in June 2016. He has over 17 years’ experience in fixed interest markets, and joins from Morgan Stanley where he held the role of managing director and head of European credit analytics.

Moore began his career in New York in 1999 at Orion Consultants, where he held a number of roles focused on US and international fixed income markets, before moving to Morgan Stanley in 2004.

JM Finn & Co

The investment management firm announced that Harry Burnham has joined the firm as an investment director in their London office with immediate effect, where he will be joined by his investment team.

Burnham was previously at Ashcourt Rowan Asset Management (subsequently acquired by Towry) and prior to that he was an investment director at Brewin Dolphin.
