BNP Paribas IP names head of global segments

BNP Paribas Investment Partners has appointed Cynthia Sweeney Barnes as head of global segments and EMEA countries.

BNP Paribas Investment Partners has appointed Cynthia Sweeney Barnes as head of global segments and EMEA countries.

The asset management division of BNP Paribas Group said Barnes will lead the EMEA country teams and four client segment teams – corporates and endowments, insurance, pension funds, official institutions to meet the fund house’s growth plans for its institutional franchise. 
 
Based in London, she will take charge of the role on 13 May. With more than 25 years of experience in asset management industry, she has led sales teams across various regions, capabilities and client segments. Since 1996, she has focussed on institutional clients from the UK, EMEA and other regions, BNP Paribas said. 
 
“With a compelling range of equity, fixed income and multi-asset capabilities and a strong position in key segments such as official institutions, there is a solid basis for further building partnerships across all segments and regions,” Barnes said.
 
She has worked for asset management arms of Aetna, JPMorgan Chase and, HSBC Global Asset Management.
 
BNP Paribas Investment Partners is structured around three business lines namely institutional, distribution, Asia-Pacific and emerging markets and manages  €479bn worth of assets. 
 
Ligia Torres, head of APAC and emerging markets for BNPP IP had recently highlighted the group’s commitment and focus on emerging markets at a recent media briefing.The fund house has presence in 16 countries in the emerging market space with Mexico being the latest one where the firm in building up its investment management company.
 
The emerging market business has €61bn worth of assets spread across countries such as Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Russia, Turkey, Morocco, Bahrain, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil.
