A challenge to advisers on their knowledge of longevity

By Mark Battersby, 1 Oct 15

Have financial advisers factored in the issue of longevity in the right way when they do financial planning for clients? Nick Webb, UK platform strategic relationship manager at J P Morgan, thinks not.

He reveals the percentage chance of a couple aged 60 reaching 90, and the extent to which financial advisers vary in their estimates for this figure.

Webb also cites one of the latest reports on longevity which shows the surprising trend that men are catching up with women in terms of their lifespans.

In the interview with International Adviser, he further touches on market returns and what can realistically be expected from a classic mix of equities and bonds.
