CISI honours godfather of financial planning Paul Etheridge

Paul Etheridge, the chairman of UK financial planning firm the Prestwood Group has been awarded a Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (Cisi) honorary fellowship.

Paul Etheridge, the chairman of UK financial planning firm the Prestwood Group has been awarded a Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (Cisi) honorary fellowship.

Cisi honorary fellowships are awarded by the professional body’s board to individuals it believes have made a distinctive contribution to financial services and to Cisi.

Etheridge, dubbed the ‘godfather of financial planning’, runs Prestwood and founded the Institute of Financial Planning in 1986.

The international professional body Cisi officially merged with the IFP in October 2015.

Etheridge is also considered a pioneer of cashflow planning, having been instrumental in creating Prestwood’s Truth software, lifelong cash flow modelling programme that launched in 1984.

The software is now regarded by many of the UK’s leading tools for financial planners.

Cisi also awarded the honour to five others including, HSBC Group chairman Douglas Flint and Financial Conduct Authority non-executive director and ex-National Savings & Investments chief executive Jane Platt.

Other also included Evening Standard journalist Anthony Hilton, public affairs consultant and former Brewin Dolphin marketing director Charlotte Black and Brewin Dolphin chief executive David Nicol.

“We are delighted that these six eminent individuals have accepted our Honorary Fellowship award. They have all made an exceptional contribution to the Institute and to the financial services profession,” said Alan Yarrow, CISI chairman.
