Ruth Martin, managing director of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments, is to step down from the post, which she has held for the past 10 years, at the end of next January.

Martin will continue to support the London-based, global accreditation organisation "in a senior advisory capacity" beginning next February, CISI said in a statement released today.

A search for a successor will begin imminently, a spokesperson said.

During Martin's decade at its helm, CISI opened five international offices, and saw its membership grow by 50%. It now provides more than 40,000 examinations to aspiring finance industry and wealth management industry professionals in more than 100 countries. It has representative offices in such financial centres as Dublin, Singapore, Dubai, Mumbai and Colombo.

Martin has had more than 30 years of experience in professional education and development, and is said to possess a special interest in enabling people to use their professional skills in the public interest. Prior to coming to CISI, she was director of professional development at the Market Research Society, and also worked in government and higher education. She is a licensed lay minister in the Church of England and chair of governors of a secondary school in the UK.

CISI was founded in 1992 as the Securities Institute by members of the London Stock Exchange. It changed its name to the Securities and Investment Institute in 2004, and became the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment when it was granted a Royal Charter in October 2009.
