coutts appoints second co head for middle east

22 May 12

Coutts has appointed Ali Hammad as co-head of the Middle East Region, the most recent in a series of appointments made by the firm as it bolsters its international presence.

Coutts has appointed Ali Hammad as co-head of the Middle East Region, the most recent in a series of appointments made by the firm as it bolsters its international presence.

Hammad is due to join Coutts in July and will report to Alex Classen, Chief Executive of Coutts International. Based in London, Hammad will partner with Amir Sadr, co-head of Coutts in the Middle East, who is based in Dubai. As reported, Sadr joined Coutts in November last year.

Coutts said the two will be responsible for developing the client franchise and product offering, managing relationships with key clients and stakeholders.  Hammad will also be tasked with continuing to develop Coutts’ proposition for Middle Eastern clients using the London platform.

Hammad joins Coutts from Credit Suisse, where he was head of private banking for the Middle East.  Prior to Credit Suisse, he spent nine years working as a private banker for UBS, serving Middle Eastern clients.

The firm added that the Middle East is one of its core growth markets, as identified in its 2011 strategic review and “will continue to benefit from investment to support its growth”.  Coutts added the region will play a key role in its “ambitions to increase its international footprint to 50% of overall business by 2015”.

Hammad’s appointment follows that of Gary Dugan from Emirates NBD earlier this week.
