Coutts & Co has named Watty Buwanawati, a specialist in Indonesian private banking, to its Singapore-based private banking team, as it looks to expand its business in Indonesia.

As executive director of business development for the Indonesian market, Buwanawati is responsible for promoting Coutts’s private banking services in the sprawling country of more than 230 million people.

She reports to Jacqueline Chua, managing director and market head for South East Asia.

Coutts said Buwanawati was a “key hire” for the bank, “at a time when the business is undergoing significant expansion in the region”, and noted that she as the thirteenth “front office appointment” made in Singapore since the start of the year.

Most recently Buwanawati headed the private wealth management business for Deutsche Bank in Indonesia, where she was responsible for building an onshore private banking franchis for the bank. Previous roles included stints at ANZ Panin Bank and American Express Bank
in Indonesia.

Noting that Coutts had “invested significantly” in the Southeast Asia region over the last few months, Ranjit Khanna, head of South Asia & Global NRI for Coutts, said Buwanawati’s appointment “underpins our ambitions and efforts in building our franchise” in Southeast Asia generally, and Indonesia in particular.

Also at Coutts, Zubin Dabu has been appointed executive director for South Asia, a role that will involve his acting as a senior relationship partner to Coutts’s ultra high net-worth clients in the region. He came to the bank from Singapore-based Deauville Private Office, where he was responsible for managing ultra high net worth relationships.

Coutts & Co is a division of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, and is headquartered in London.
