Henderson hires Finegan

4 Nov 14

Henderson Global Investors has recruited ex-First State manager Glen Finegan as head of emerging market equities, with Chris Palmer leaving the firm.

Henderson Global Investors has recruited ex-First State manager Glen Finegan as head of emerging market equities, with Chris Palmer leaving the firm.

Starting on 5 January, Finegan will take on responsibility for the asset manager’s £1bn GEM franchise, including the £154m Henderson Emerging Market Opportunities, and two SICAV’s – the £64m Henderson Gartmore Emerging Markets and $200m Latin American funds. true

Palmer, the director of emerging markets who was previously responsible for these funds, will leave having joined the firm as part of its acquisition of Gartmore in 2011.

Finegan was previously at First State Investments, though left earlier this year having originally said he was taking a one-year sabbatical. He was co-manager on the firm’s Global Emerging Markets, Global Emerging Market Leaders and Worldwide Equity funds with Jonathan Asante.

Finegan will report to head of equities Graham Kitchen, who praised his strong understanding of the sector and ability to raise assets.

Finegan said: “It is very clear to me that Henderson is focused on their clients, with the delivery of investment performance paramount. The equities team is one of the most respected in the industry.

“My decision to join was based on the collective belief that the GEM sector forms an intrinsic part of the group’s future business strategy. I look forward to working with both the investment and distribution teams to develop Henderson’s offering to clients.”
