Headlines around the world have been dominated by the issue of gender pay and there has been a lot of conversation on how to to tackle it.

But what is the real impact that it has on women’s lives?

UBS Wealth Management ran a study called Jane and Joe to illustrate exactly that.

In the US, Joe and Jane enter the workplace at age 25 on the same salary of $110,000 (£84,427; €97,977) and have the same investable assets (Figure 1).
