Pioneer Investments has poached Jack Lin from Janus Capital to head its Asia and Middle East business.

Lin, who had been head of Asia Pacific at Janus since 2008, will be based in Singapore and will report to the company’s head of Western Europe and international, Sandro Pierri.

Pioneer said in his new role, Lin has been tasked with building the company’s presence in the region and expanding its business to fit “the broader growth plan in this region”, positioning the company’s capabilities to large, sophisticated institutional investors.

Target investors will include sovereign wealth funds, central bank reserves, large state pension funds and global distributors.

Prior to working for Janus Capital, Lin worked for Franklin Templeton Emerging Market Group where he began his career working as an analysts and portfolio manager. Here in addition to regular investment responsibilities, he played an important role in helping establish Templeton fund management activities in a few key Asian markets, such as Korea, China and Vietnam. He then became chief executive of Franklin Templeton’s joint venture in China (Franklin Templeton Sealand Fund Management) and was subsequently promoted to Head of Institutional in Asia for Franklin Templeton.
