michael oliver stepping down as head

Michael Oliver is to leave the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, where he is currently head of insurance supervision, at the end of the year, after more than six years there.

Oliver is understood to be retiring, although a Government spokesperson said he would probably continue to work for the FSC in a consulting capacity.

A successor to Oliver is currently being sought by the regulator, which has posted a notice to that effect on its website.

Prior to coming to the FSC in 2008, Oliver had been director of Insurance at the Financial Services Commission of the British Virgin Islands, and before that had been with the UK's Financial Services Authority as an insurance adviser. He began his career in the insurance industry.

Oliver’s departure comes at a time of change for the FSC. In February, Marcus Killick ended a decade as chief executive, and was succeeded by Samantha Barrass, formerly an executive director at the Solicitors Regulation Authority in England and Wales.

Deputy chief executive David Parody also walked away from the FSC, in February.
