Qianhai-based First Seafront Fund Management managing director and chief economist Yang Delong believes A-shares are likely to be included this year.

“We expect the [resulting] capital inflows will not be that much. It’s more like a symbolic move for the internationalisation of A-shares.”

Smaller-than-expected inflows may result because the proposal only aims to add 169 mainland stocks in the indices, he noted.

“[An inclusion] would likely benefit large-cap blue-chips. For our funds, we also tend to allocate more toward these stocks,” he continued.
