Skandia parent Old Mutual has appointed Ralph Mupita as chief executive of its emerging market business, following the departure of Kuseni Dlamini to pursue other interests.

According to the group, which operates in more than 30 countries, Mupita will take up the position next month.

Mupita joined Old Mutual’s individual life business in 2001, and was promoted to managing director of its unit trust arm in 2004.

Since then he has served as strategy director, and as the group’s managing director for retail, where he was responsible for driving its growth in the affluent segment.

In April last year, Mupita was appointed to head Old Mutual’s emerging markets life and savings division, focusing on its businesses in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

“I am very pleased…to be able to appoint a replacement with the skills and expertise of Ralph and we are confident that he has the right expertise and experience to drive the emerging markets businesses growth,” said Paul Hanratty, chief executive of Old Mutual’s long term savings business.
