New Portugal-based advice firm launches to serve growing expat market

By Laura Purkess, 29 Oct 25

The firm is founded by Steve Thompson, a UK-qualified adviser

A new boutique advice firm, Atlas Bridge Wealth, has launched in the Algarve region in Portugal to serve the growing number of expatriates – typically UK nationals typically – living across the country and the rest of Europe.

The firm is founded by Steve Thompson, a UK-qualified adviser and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). It intends to bridge the gap between UK financial standards and the realities of life abroad.

From its base in the Algarve, Atlas Bridge Wealth says it will offer independent, EU-compliant advice on wealth structuring, retirement and pension planning, and cross-border tax efficiency.

It operates under a dual-network model in Europe and globally, with a UK Appointed Representative partnership expected soon to ensure clients receive continuous, compliant advice across most jurisdictions.

“Atlas Bridge Wealth was created to help people put down financial roots with confidence, wherever life takes them,” said Thompson.

“After more than three and a half decades advising clients across the UK, Middle East, Africa, and Europe, I recognised the need for an advisory firm that blends technical precision with genuine human connection, operating transparently and fee-based, much like the best UK private client models.

“We bring clarity, structure, and peace of mind to complex cross-border lives.”
