PEOPLE MOVES: Abrdn, Gam, Rathbones

CIO to retire from UK giant, as Swiss-headquartered firm names global head of wealth management

Abrdn

The UK giant is planning to shake-up its senior investment team as chief investment officer Rod Paris plans to retire at the end of the year.

Devan Kaloo will step up to become global head of public markets, supported by Craig Macdonald as deputy head. Kaloo and Macdonald will continue in their roles as global head of equities and global head of fixed income, respectively.

The real assets franchise will be headed up by Neil Slater who will oversee the firm’s real estate and infrastructure capabilities.

Robert McKillop and Archie Struthers will continue to lead the global product and solutions business and central investments teams respectively.

McKillop will be directly supported by Aymeric Forest, global head of multi-asset solutions. Struthers will assume responsibility for Abrdn’s governance framework, investment execution and investment platform and continue to lead on the firm’s responsible investing and stewardship activity.

Elsewhere, Abrdn has appointed Russell Bignall as sales director and Fiona Dudman as solution maintenance and control director of the adviser sector.

Bignall will join from wealth management firm Quilter, where he has been head of UK sales since 2015.

Dudman joined the business in June from Barclays UK, where she held the role of head of conduct and operational controls for business banking.

Gam

The Swiss-heaquartered asset manager has promoted Martin Jufer to global head of wealth management.

Sean O’Driscoll will also join the firm as the chief executive of Luxembourg.

Jufer joined Gam from Julius Baer in 2009, while O’Driscoll joins from Universal-Investment, where he was the country head of Luxembourg.

Rathbones

The UK firm has named Elizabeth Savage and Edward Smith as co-chief investment officers of Rathbone Investment Management, as Julian Chillingworth announces his retirement.

Following a 20-year career at Rathbones, most recently as chief investment officer across the business, and with more than 40 years in the investment industry, Chillingworth has decided to retire, planning to leave the business in early 2022.

With immediate effect, Savage and Smith, currently head of research and head of asset allocation research respectively, will lead the newly created ‘CIO office’.

A chief investment officer for Rathbone Unit Trust Management will be announced in due course.

Over the coming months, Chillingworth will work closely with all investment teams to ensure a smooth and successful transition.

Franklin Templeton

Yu Ben Meng has been hired as executive vice president and chairman of Asia Pacific at the investment firm.

He previously served as chief investment officer for the California Public Employees Retirement System.

IQ-EQ

The financial services firm has named Andy Mallet as Jersey head of operations.

He joins IQ-EQ from Apex Group, where he was director and head of operations.

Citi Private Bank

The private bank has appointed Jonathan Gan as head of south Asia in its private capital group.

He was previously a managing director at HSBC.

Indosuez Wealth Management

Alfred Low has been named as head of north Asia market and strategic partnerships for the bank’s Singapore branch.

He joins Indosuez after holding senior management and advisory roles covering north Asia clients at HSBC Private Bank, Credit Suisse Private Bank, UBS Wealth Management and Citigroup Private Bank.

Rothschild & Co

The group has recruited Mike Allen as a senior adviser to its wealth management business, based in Guernsey.

He has held a number of key senior positions during his almost 25 years with the SG Kleinwort Hambros Group.

Suntera Global

The firm has appointed Ryan Taylor as head of funds for Jersey.

Before joining Suntera Global, he was a director of fund services in Jersey for the Zedra Group.

Tilney

The wealth manager has set up an investment management team at its Newcastle office.

As part of the move, managing partner David Smith and his team have been joined in the firm’s office by investment manager Matthew Burgess, who previously worked for five years at Tilney’s Liverpool office.

In addition, Angus Wilson has joined Tilney from Brewin Dolphin as assistant investment manager.
