PEOPLE MOVES: Andy Robinson, MetLife, Lombard Odier

Today’s people moves column boasts an embarrassment of riches as the industry seems to be getting its house in order before the Christmas break. Former Zurich man Andy Robinson has resurfaced, while MetLife has named a chief executive in Hong Kong. Lombard Odier’s new chief operating officer has left the world of haute couture to delve into financial marketing.

Architas

Avni Thakrar has joined Architas as a product specialist to support the upcoming launch of its new Managed Portfolio service. Thakrar previously spent two years as a director of asset management solutions at SEI Investments where she led the development of new multi asset income, liquid alternatives, and smart beta fund ranges.

First Names Group

First Names Group has promoted Andrew De La Haye to deputy managing director of its Jersey trust business, with immediate effect. He has worked as client services director at the group for two years, having joined the business following the acquisition of Seymour Trust in 2014 where he held the position of managing director.

J. Safra Sarasin

Bank J. Safra Sarasin has appointed Sutarmin Lili as a managing director, client advisory, effective 8 November 2016. Lili has more than 25 years’ experience and will manage a team primarily covering Indonesia and southeast Asian markets. He reports to Benedikt Maissen, chief executive of Singapore, and will be based at the bank’s Singapore branch.

State Street Global Advisors

State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), the asset management business of State Street Corporation, has appointed Malcolm Smith to the newly created role Global SPDR chief operating officer. He will be based in London and report to Rory Tobin, co-head of Global SPDR business. Prior to joining SSGA, Smith was interim global chief operating officer in the Global Investments and Solutions division at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management.

Carrick Wealth

Samantha Taylor-Bowen has been promoted to group director of training and development for the Carrick Group. She will also sit on the board of both the south African and international divisions. Taylor-Bowen joined Carrick at inception and assumed a management role in Cape Town, having spent seven years as a senior financial adviser and manager for a large international brokerage.

Signator Investors

Signator Investors, a Manulife company, has named Joseph Terry deputy chief compliance officer, with responsibility for, among other things, assisting with implementing the US Department of Labor’s fiduciary rule.

Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)

Peter de Graaf has been appointed to the newly created role of chief operating officer of the PRI, effective 1 December 2016. Based in London he will report to managing director Fiona Reynolds. De Graaf joins from London-based management consultancy Carnstone Partners, where he spent the last seven years as a senior partner.

City Financial

City Financial, a New York-based investment management firm, has appointed Lou Thorne to the newly created role of global chief operating officer, with effect from 7 November 2016. Joining from Fortress Investment Group, Thorne will be responsible for City Financial’s global operations, risk, legal, compliance and technology teams across six offices.
