PEOPLE MOVES: Aviva, Savills IM, Janus Henderson

Insurer makes C-suite changes and real estate investment firm hires Singapore-based CEO

Aviva

Andy Briggs has stepped down as chief executive of UK insurance and as a director of Aviva.

He will remain with the group until 23 October 2019 to support an orderly transition.

Briggs was group chief executive of Friends Life, which was acquired in April 2015. He joined Aviva’s board following the deal and was appointed to lead its UK life business.

Angela Darlington, currently Aviva’s group chief risk officer, will become interim chief executive of UK insurance.

She joined Aviva in 2001 and was previously chief risk officer of Aviva’s UK life business.

The firm has also hired Colm Holmes as chief executive of Aviva Canada and global corporate and speciality, and Patrick Dixneuf, as chief executive of Aviva’s European businesses.

Dixneuf remains chief executive of Aviva France and will join Aviva’s leadership team.

Savills Investment Management

The global real estate investment manager has appointed Alex Jeffrey as chief executive.

He will join the firm in late 2019, subject to regulatory approval, and will be based in Singapore.

Jeffrey will also become a member of the Savills group executive board.

Kiran Patel, who was interim chief executive, will continue in his role as chief investment officer and will become deputy chief executive.

Janus Henderson Investors

Alex Barr will join Janus Henderson Investors’ UK multi-asset and alternatives team as a senior portfolio manager in London.

Barr will report to Paul O’Connor, head of multi-asset investments and work alongside James de Bunsen and Peter Webster, as co-manager on a number of multi-asset alternatives funds

He joins from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he was global head of private markets and real estate investment oversight.

Amundi

The European asset manager has appointed Ryan Myerberg as head of absolute return – global fixed income.

Myerberg will be based in London and joins Amundi from Janus Henderson Investors, where he was a senior portfolio manager for global macro and global credit strategies.

East Capital

The asset manager has hired Karine Hirn as chief sustainability officer, where she has been tasked with overseeing the environmental, social and governance (ESG) and sustainability work within the East Capital group.

She will also join the portfolio management team for East Capital Global Emerging Market Sustainable fund.

Hirn has 25 years of experience in the investment industry and was a founding partner of East Capital in 1997 in Stockholm.

Currently based in Hong Kong, she is chief executive of East Capital Asia and chairperson of East Capital entities in Luxembourg.

Queensgate Investments

The fund manager has named Iain Morpeth as group managing director.

Morpeth is a lawyer and a former partner at Ropes & Gray, where he held the position of global chair of the law firm’s international private equity real estate group.

Prior to this, Morpeth was a partner at Clifford Chance, where he worked for more than 20 years.

Withers

Jeff Millington has been hired as tax investigations director at the law firm.

He joins Withers from financial services firm Smith & Williamson.

Millington also worked as an inspector at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for 24 years, and also held a number of roles at several accountancy firms.
