PEOPLE MOVES: Axa IM, Sanlam, Hermes

Axa Investment Managers has appointed a deputy manager to its Framlington American growth fund. Sanlam has named two senior changes and a retirement, while Hermes EOS has appointed a director of engagement.

Axa Investment Managers

Axa IM has appointed David Shaw as deputy manager of the Axa Framlington American Growth Fund. Shaw will be based in London and report into lead manager Stephen Kelly, head of US strategies at Axa IM Framlington Equities.

Shaw has over 20 years’ experience in North American and UK equity portfolio management. He joins from Aerion Fund Management, where he spent 13 years co-managing a £900m ($1.3bn, €1.2bn) North American equity portfolio.

Sanlam

Financial director Kobus Möller will retire from the executive and board with effect from 30 September 2016. Möller will remain employed by Sanlam until 31 December 2016. He will continue to serve within the group in a non-executive capacity on subsidiary boards and sub-committees. Möller joined Sanlam in 1998 and was appointed as the group’s financial director in 2006.

Heinie Werth, chief executive of Sanlam Emerging Markets (SEM), will succeed Möller as the group’s financial director and executive director of the Sanlam Limited board. A Chartered Accountant, he joined Sanlam in 1998 and has held various executive positions.

Further, Junior John Ngulube will be appointed to the position of chief executive: SEM, taking over from Werth. Ngulube joined Sanlam in February 2016 as chief executive: Sanlam Corporate. Prior to joining Sanlam, Ngulube was chief executive of Munich Reinsurance Company of Africa.

Hermes Investment Management

Hermes has appointed Carl Short as director of engagement for Hermes EOS. Based in London, Short will report to Hans-Christoph Hirt, co-head of Hermes EOS.

Prior to joining Hermes, Short worked for a number of banks and other research providers, including Standard & Poor’s Equity Research, Societe Generale, Nomura, and Kleinwort Benson.

Artemis

After 13 years with the firm, co-manager of the Artemis Income Fund Adrian Gosden is to leave Artemis at the end of the month.

Artemis confirmed that the income fund and Gosden’s other mandates will continue to be run by the income team, headed up by Gosden’s co-manager Adrian Frost. It is not clear at this stage to where Gosden is moving.

Fiduciary Trust

Hank Murphy has joined the firm as a managing director and portfolio manager responsible for investment manager research, selection and monitoring. He will be based in the firm’s headquarters in New York City.

Murphy joins Fiduciary Trust with over 25 years of experience in alternative investments. Most recently, he served as a partner and director of Investor Relations and Business Development at SLS Capital, a New York-based hedge fund. He has also held senior positions at Investcorp International, as well as Tiger Management and Cambridge Associates.

Carmignac

Mark Denham joins Carmignac as head of the European equities team. Based in London, Denham will assume management of the Carmignac Grande Europe and Carmignac Euro-Patrimoine funds.

Before joining Carmignac, Denham worked for 13 years at Aviva Investors in London, where he was incharge of pan-European equities. Prior to that, he was a European equities fund manager at Insight Investment and at National Mutual Life.

Swiss Re

President of Swiss Re Japan, Steve Arora has been appointed global head of casualty. He will also join the Reinsurance Executive Committee in Zurich on 1 July 2016.

Arora has worked at Swiss Re for 17 years and in that time has developed a broad geographic and functional experience, having worked in all three regions and in various job families such as finance, risk management, underwriting, sales and most recently in general management.

Succeeding Arora as president of Swiss Re Japan is Atsuhiro Dodo, effective 1 July 2016.  In this role he will be both the market executive and client executive, as well as having oversight for all of Swiss Re’s operations in Japan in his capacity as country president.

Additionally, Deepak Mohan has been appointed as head of business development for Asia, effective 1 July 2016 and Marianne Gilchrist has been promoted to the client executive position of Swiss Re Globals Asia.

Korea Investment Corporation

The Korea Investment Corp, the country’s sovereign wealth fund, has named Shin-woo Kang as its chief investment officer. Kang served as president and chief executive of Seoul-based Hanwha Asset Management.

The Seoul National University Law graduates was also formerly the chief investment officer of Korea Investment Management and PCA Asset Management. Appointed to the management board, Kang replaces Heung-sik Choo who resigned in February to join the World Bank as director of investment management.
