By International Adviser, 11 Oct 16

British Virgin Islands (BVI) Finance poaches Jersey Finance’s former business development director as Mercer Jelf announces a new regional leader. NN Investment Partners makes a new appointment to push its alternative platform while discretionary fund manager Creechurch Capital hires an analyst to its investment team.

British Virgin Islands Finance

Gary Hales, the former business development director at Jersey Finance has joined the British Virgin Islands (BVI) counterpart as Head of Business Development.

BVI Finance said Hales will be responsible for helping to generate new business to the Island as well as developing its roles as an international finance centre.

The appointment comes as BVI Finance transitions to a public company in January 2017, said the regulator.

During his tenure at Jersey Finance, where he spent four years, Hales specialised in promoting the Island to the Gulf Cooperation Council and India.

He also has more than 20 years across the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia Sub-Saharan Africa and Russia.

Mercer Jelf Financial Planning

Mercer Jelf Financial Planning, the employees benefits advisory arm of HR consultancy Mercer, has named Paul Howard as the regional leader for the north of England.

The appointment is the first announced by new head of the unit, Grant Hughes, who earlier this month spoke to International Adviser about the importance of choosing the right talent.

A chartered financial planner, Howard joins Mercer with experience in both restricted and independent advice models, said the firm, which was launched earlier this year as part of a merger between Mercer and Bristol-based advisory firm Jelf Financial Planning.

After joining as a trainee at the Royal Bank of Scotland Personal Banking in 1990, Howard has held numerous mortgage and customer adviser roles before moving to the regulated sales arm of the company.

He then went on to work as an independent financial adviser at Barclays, providing regulated advice to private and banking customers across the North West of England.

Between 2004 and 2016, Howard held roles at RBS including IFA, technical area director and RBS and NatWest Regional Quality and development manager.

NN Investment Partners

Gabriella Kindert has joined NN Investment Partners’ (NN IP) alternative credit platform.

NN said the appointment comes following the promotion of Bart Bakx and Lennart van Mierlo to head of residential real estate and head of commercial real estate lending respectively.

The investment house said Kindert will be tasked with managing all illiquid fixed income strategies including residential real estate, corporate private debt, project finance and commercial real estate loans.

She will also be responsible for expanding the firm’s alternative credit platform, which currently has €14bn ($15.6bn, £12.6bn) of assets under management.

With more than 20 years of international experience under her belt, Kindert has previously worked in both banking and asset management.

She has held various managerial positions with financial institutions including former private wealth manager MeesPierson and BNP Paribas IP, where she was the global head of loans.

Creechurch Capital

Discretionary fund manager Creechurch Capital has appointed Iain Ramsay as a senior analyst in its investment team.   Ramsay joins Creechurch Capital from AVI Fund Solutions where he was a business development manager.

His hiring is in line with the company’s strategy for ongoing expansion, said Creechurch.

During his time at AVI, Ramsay gained vast experience across the offshore financial sector travelling to territories including the Middle East, Latin America and South East Asia.
