PEOPLE MOVES: HSBC, Standard Life Aberdeen, Julius Baer

Head of wealth planning joins the global bank and savings chief named at Scottish giant

HSBC

Jeremy Franks has been appointed head of wealth planning and advisory, Emea at the bank.

He started in the newly created role on 8 July 2019 and will be based at HSBC’s London office.

He left his previous position as chief executive of Knox Private Office to join the firm, having previously worked at UBS Wealth management for 12 years.

Standard Life Aberdeen

The Scottish investment manager has named Noel Butwell as chief executive of its savings business.

He will be responsible for Standard Life Savings, its platforms – namely Wrap and Elevate – as well as the firm’s advice business 1825.

Butwell has been with Standard Life Aberdeen for over 16 years, focusing on building and maintaining relationships with financial advisers.

Julius Baer

The Swiss investment manager has promoted Philipp Rickenbacher to the top job.

He succeeds outgoing chief executive Bernhard Hodler from September 2019.

Hodler has been with Julius Baer for just over two decades but held the top job for less than two years.

Rickenbacher is currently head of intermediaries and global custody of bank, and has held several senior position since joining the company in 2004.

M&G Investments

The savings and investment business has named Richard Hall as manager of the M&G European Select Fund and M&G (Lux) Pan European Dividend Fund.

The two funds were managed by Phil Cliff, who has moved to focus on sustainable investment research at the firm.

Together with Daniel White and Shane Kelly, Halle will also become co-manager of the M&G Global Recovery Fund, as the current manager David Williams is stepping down.

Halle has worked for M&G since 1999, when he joined as a sector analyst focusing on insurance. White joined the firm in 2005 from Deloitte and Touche; while Kelly came to the company in 2017 from Australian business Alphinity Investment Management.

Withers

Seven associates have been promoted to partner at the international law firm, effective from 1 July 2019.

They are:

  • Stephen Banfield and Lada Shelkovnikova in Singapore;
  • Jennifer Canavan and Alistair Christopher in New Haven, US;
  • Josefina Colomar and Michael Rueda in New York; and,
  • Hugh More in London.

Jersey Funds Association

Tim Morgan has been hired as chair of the Jersey Fund Association.

He currently serves as a partner at offshore law firm Mourant, based in Jersey, where he has been since 2003. Before moving to the Channel Island, he was a corporate lawyer with PwC Legal and then Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein in London.

Morgan succeeds former chair Mike Byrne who has been with the association for the last three years.

Candriam

The European asset manager has named Ryan Welch as senior relationship manager in its London office.

He will be responsible for the distribution of the firm’s funds to discretionary clients in the capital.

Welch joins from Aviva Investors where he was business development director; he also held roles in sales and marketing at Framlington and Axa Investment Management.
