KPMG
KMPG has announced six internal promotions. Marco Vassallo, Simon Xuereb and Jonathan Dingli have been appointed as partners at the firm, while Adrienne McCarthy, Mark Curmi and Vanessa Borg have been named as directors.
Vassallo has been at the firm for more than 20 years, first joining as a software programmer. Xuereb is an international taxation and law specialist, who has led the broadening of KPMG in Malta. Dingli helped set up and run the accounting advisory unit.
McCarthy leads the internal HR team, while Curni is an industry specialist leading the banking, financial institutions in Malta. Borg joined KPMG in September this year due to her experience in growing business and engagement in board level discussions.
Standard Life Aberdeen
Douglas Flint, formerly chairman of HSBC, has been appointed as the new chairman for Standard Life. Flint will take over from Gerry Grimstone on 1 January 2019.
Many challenges await Flint when he takes up the role, such as dealing with the lost £109bn ($139bn, €122.3bn) investment mandate from Lloyds.
Axa
Amelie Breitburd has been named as the new UK and Ireland chief financial officer for Axa, replacing Bertrand Poupart-Lafarge.
Breitburd has worked at Axa for 14 years and will start her new position on 1 January, leaving her previous role as chief financial officer of Axa Asia.
Poupart-Lafarge will take on the chief financial officer role at Axa France.
Barclays Wealth Management
Barclays Wealth has announced six senior appointments as it looks to expand its Leeds office.
Richard Kirkham, who joins from Redmayne Bentley, has more than 20 years’ experience in wealth management and institutional equity markets.
David Firth, who comes from Tilney, has 25 years in financial services under his belt. Catherine Makin joins Barclays with 20 years’ experience as an investment specialist.
Richard Lindop is a level 7 chartered wealth manager, while Andrea Charge joins from Coutts, where she worked for 10 years providing financial solutions to high net-worth clients.
Lastly, Alison Probert has been appointed as a director, having been with the firm for six years.
Close Brothers
Close Brothers has hired two former Rathbones directors.
John Henderson and Andrew Mackintosh-Walker join as managing directors of the high net-worth team based at the firm’s Edinburgh office.
Henderson, previously regional director at Rathbones, has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry.
Mackintosh-Walker was investment director and deputy head of Rathbones in Edinburgh, having joined the company in 2000.
Neptune
Mike Parson, formally of JP Morgan Asset Management, has been appointed head of global sales at Neptune, following the departure of the firm’s head of UK sales, Daniel Lee, just one year after taking up the role.
Parsons left JP Morgan in 2016 after a decade at the firm.
Lee joined Neptune in 2017 and has worked at Edmond de Rothschild, Allianz and Old Mutual.
APS Bank
APS Bank has named Victor Emanuel Agius, the former director at the Council of European Development Bank, as its new non-executive director.
Agius’s career spans more than 43 years, starting out at Lloyds Bank and includes working at the World Bank Group and the International Finance Corporation.
Carey Olsen Bermuda
Solicitor Ashley Fife will join Carey Olsen’s Bermuda trust next month, after spending five years at another Bermuda offshore firm.
Prior to that he was head of legal for the Jersey office of international trusts. He is considered as “up and coming” by Chambers and Partners and a “next generation lawyer” by Legal 500 Caribbean.
