PEOPLE MOVES: Schroders, Aviva Asia, Allianz…

By Kirsten Hastings, 25 Feb 16

After more than a decade as head of emerging market equities, Schroder’s Conway is set to retire. Several high profile people moves have been made in Asia of late; with Aviva, Allianz, and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announcing changes.

Schroders

Schroders’ head of emerging market equities, Allan Conway, is to retire later this year. His replacement has been named as Tom Wilson, who is currently a fund manager within the firm’s global equities team.

Conway became head of emerging market equities 11 years ago and co-manages the Schroder Global Emerging Markets, ISF Latin America, and ISF Global Emerging Markets Opportunities funds.

Wilson will assume all management responsibilities for Conway’s funds.

Aviva Asia

Aviva Asia has appointed Warwick Young to the newly created role of chief executive of Navigator Investment Services, a wholly owned integrated investment portfolio administration service.

Young joined the group in April 2011 as finance director for Aviva Singapore, and became the chief risk officer for Aviva Asia in September 2014.

His successor as chief risk officer has been named as Charles Hung, who will assume responsibility to risk management and compliance across Aviva’s growing Asian business. Based in Hong Kong, Hung will report to Chris Wei, executive chairman of Aviva Asia and global chairman of Aviva Digital.

Allianz

Allianz has hired Paul Groves as head of market management, Asia Pacific. Groves will be based in Singapore and report to chief distribution officer for Asia Pacific, Lars Heibutzki.

He was previously based in Hong Kong as AIA’s group chief marketing officer, and has also previously worked in MetLife, Barclays and GE Money.

Hong Kong Monetary Authority

HKMA has announced that deputy chief executive Peter Pang will retire effective from 26 February 2016. Pang has worked with HKMA for the past 22 years.

He will be succeeded by senior executive director Howard Lee.

Kames Capital

Kames Capital has appointed Sam Carter to the newly created position of head of global financial institutions – wholesale. Carter will report to Steve Kenny, director of wholesale. The role will seek to coordinate the company’s activity with global financial institutions.

Carter has worked within the wholesale distribution team at Kames Capital since January 2013. In his previous role as business development manager he was responsible  for building and maintaining relationships with a portfolio of private banks, financial institutions, fund of funds, discretionary and advisory wealth managers, stockbrokers and family offices.

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management

Arthur Molloy has been appointed investment director of Canaccord. Reporting to Dermot Hamill, head of wealth management for the Isle of Man, Molloy will deliver wealth management solutions to clients and support the further development of the firm’s investment management potential in the island.

Thomas Miller Investment (Isle of Man)

David Thomas has been named chairman of Thomas Miller Investments, he will succeed Ian Jarrett after he retires in July.

Tom Richards has been appointed managing director of the business. He joined the firm in 2012 as head of private investment management (Offshore) and has sat on the board since 2013.
