PEOPLE MOVES: VAM, StanChart, Sanlam

By Kirsten Hastings, 31 Oct 17

Vam’s new group development director comes with strong Zurich credentials, while Standard Chartered has rejigged its management team after a member announced her retirement and Sanlam UK has added a portfolio manager to its London office.

Vam

Vam has appointed well-known industry expert David Cockerton as group development director. Cockerton initially joined Vam Group earlier this year as a senior adviser, tasked with expanding its existing business across the Middle East. In addition, Cockerton will now take on global responsibilities across all Vam Group’s business interests.

Reporting to David Macdonald, group sales & marketing director, Cockerton will be responsible for the group development of VAM’s three businesses: Vam Funds, the Mauritius Administration and Trust Company (Matco) and Vam Global Management Company in Luxembourg.

Cockerton previously held several senior global positions with Zurich before leaving the insurance giant after 23 years.

Standard Chartered

Karen Fawcett, chief executive, retail banking and group head, brand and marketing will retire with effect from 31 December 2017. She joined StanChart in 2001 and has held a number of senior positions. As a result, her roles have been distributed between other members of the management team and other changes made as follows:

The former interim chief executive of the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority, Tracey McDermott, will assume responsibility for brand and marketing, in addition to her current group head, corporate, public and regulatory affairs role.

Ben Hung, regional chief executive, greater China & North Asia (GCNA) will take on the additional role of chief executive, retail banking on 30 November 2017.

In late 2016, Anna Marrs took on responsibility as regional chief executive, Asean and South Asia (ASA) alongside her roles as chief executive, commercial banking and chief executive, private banking and wealth management.

Marrs will transfer her regional chief executive responsibilities to Judy Hsu, chief executive, Singapore, in two stages between now and the fourth quarter of 2018. Marrs will continue to focus on commercial and private banking and wealth management.

Hsu will take over responsibility for the ASA region in the fourth quarter of 2018. She will take on additional responsibility for Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, and join the group management team, both with immediate effect.

Sanlam UK

Justine Colley has been appointed portfolio manager at Sanlam UK’s London office. She will report directly into Charlie Parker, head of portfolio management, who joined the wealth manager last month.

Colley was previously at European Wealth, where she spent the last year managing the South African desk as well as managing solutions for discretionary and advisory managed clients. Prior to this, she was a wealth manager at Tilney and institutional sales manager at Mansard Capital.

Selectapension

Pension and software provider Selectapension has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of Andrew Ramsbottom as head of external sales. He joins from O&M Systems, where he spent nine years.

Ramsbottom started his career with NatWest Bank, becoming their youngest IFA at the age of 24 when the bank set up in the financial services sector. He subsequently held a number of senior sales and marketing roles within the group for the next 15 years.
