Alain Nsiona Defise has become the latest in a string of emerging market debt managers to swap one investment house for another as firms jostle to get their offerings in this ‘hot’ asset class in order.

Defise has jumped from JPMorgan where he managed a £2bn emerging corporates franchise to Pictet Asset Management where he will take up the role of head of emerging credit.

He has been appointed to build an EM corporates business for Pictet after undertaking a similar task at a prior employer Fortis Investments.

“Developing an emerging credit expertise is a natural expansion to the wider emerging market franchise of Pictet,” said Sebastien Eisniger, head of fixed income at Pictet.

“We began managing emerging equities over 20 years ago, before developing an important emerging debt business since the mid-2000s,” he added.

Defise will head a team of three emerging credit analysts, comprising Vincent Ferraton, Rosemary Fu and Teck Hoon Low.
