RWC refocuses global long/short Ucits fund on Asia

By International Adviser, 26 Feb 16

RWC Partners is changing the name and mandate of its Global Innovation Absolute Alpha fund.

RWC Partners is changing the name and mandate of its Global Innovation Absolute Alpha fund.

In a bid to capitalise on the current popularity of regional long/short equity strategies, the firm has decided to shift the fund from a global focus to an Asian one.

The fund will be run by Garret Mallal, who joined the firm’s emerging market team, in the middle of 2015 from Everest Capital. He currently manages the Cayman-domiciled RWC Asia Opportunity Fund from the firm’s Singapore office.

The new Ucits fund will closely replicate the Asia long/short equity strategy that RWC launched for Mallal in April 2015, wherein currencies are tactically used to hedge and enhance returns.

Priya Kodeeswaran, the manager of the RWC Global Innovation Absolute Alpha Fund, has decided to leave RWC, the firm said.
