St James’s Place targets women

By Robbie Lawther, 23 May 19

Firm hopes Glasgow event will bring more diversity to the financial advice sector

Finding advice talent is a hard task for many firms but St James’s Place Wealth Management is hoping to solve the issue by hosting an event in Scotland aimed at exploring future career opportunities for women.

The Glasgow-based initiative is aimed at women who are considering a change in career and want to take the path into wealth management and financial advice.

International Adviser’s recent UK regional piece discussed how firms can fix the employee drought in the sector, and it seems that St James’s Place has a solution.

Attendees will hear from women who have made the transition to a career in the industry, who either run their own business or work within one of the many SJP practices in Scotland.

Academy-run

The event is an initiative run by the St. James’s Place Academy, which offers training and development for individuals looking to become qualified financial planning and wealth advice professionals.

Shaun Godfrey, head of academy engagement, said: “We and the public are calling for more women to join the financial advice profession.

“This event will give attendees the chance to hear first-hand from others who have successfully made the transition into a career in financial advice and wealth management.

“A quarter of all people to have joined the Academy since its launch are women, and this is a number we are determined to drive upwards by investing further in events such as this.”

The representative body for Scotland’s financial service sector has also been looking to entice more people into the advice industry, and recently unveiled its first nationwide schools programme to encourage youngsters to see the career opportunities.
