The Spectrum IFA Group returns to Portugal

By Kirsten Hastings, 30 Nov 21

Months after it put down roots in Malta

Pan-European financial advisory firm The Spectrum IFA Group has opened a branch in Portugal, giving it a presence in seven countries.

It marks the firm’s return to the Iberian country, with chief executive Michael Lodhi saying the team is “excited to be re-establishing our presence in Portugal and being able to deliver local, highly-qualified and transparent advice to both new and existing clients”.

The original Portugal branch closed several years ago, following the death of the company’s local representative.

Organic growth

The new office is based in Almancil, which is situated in the very south of the country in the heart of an affluent area known as the ‘golden triangle’.

It will be run by Mark Quinn, a dual-qualified chartered financial planner and tax adviser. He brings 20 years’ experience advising individuals and businesses in the UK and Europe.

Quinn has lived and worked in Portugal since 2014 and it was his interest in joining The Spectrum IFA Group that made it possible to re-open in the country, Lodhi told International Adviser.

“Our expansion plans have always been driven by good people wanting to join our firm while living in a particular country,” he added.

Another recent example is the setting up of an office in Malta’s St Julian’s business district in September 2021. That branch is managed by partner Craig Welsh, who has been with the group since 2006.

“Our advisers are, therefore, expatriates – just like their clients,” Lodhi said.

The Spectrum IFA Group now operates in 12 offices across seven countries: France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Malta and Portugal.
