SJP slammed over ‘commission-style’ rewards for advisers

One of the UK’s largest wealth managers came under fire in February for using an ‘air miles’ type reward system for advisers that saw them take home jewellery and trips for bringing in high levels of client investment.

A Sunday Times article revealed that St James’s Place does not pay its advisers a salary, giving them instead a cut of the money they bring in from clients, which is then topped up by gifts based on a credit system.

To get the top bonus, successful advisers must rack up 1.5 million credits – the equivalent of £1.5m in advice fees.
