UK financial services firms merge

By Cristian Angeloni, 9 Jan 23

Both companies have private wealth and advice offerings

UK-based financial services group MHA MacIntyre Hudson has merged with fellow Wales-based company Gerald Thomas Chartered Accountants for an undisclosed sum.

MHA has 19 offices across the country with a network of 106 partners and 1,152 staff.

Gerald Thomas provides a range of services including financial planning and succession planning. The firm also has a sports desk where it helps sports people with an array of issues including retirement planning.

The Welsh company will rebrand under the MHA group and all staff will move over to MHA.

As part of the deal, MHA will open an office in Swansea led by partners Brian Garland and Philip Williams, with John Evans and Margaret Jones becoming consultants at the firm. Gerald Thomas, Rachel Doyle and Elinor Williams have also been promoted to partner and director, respectively.

Garland said: “Having worked with MHA in the past, it became clear that they are a very suitable partner with similar values, ethos and approaches to client care and service. While our clients will see no change in the team that services them, this merger notably enhances our offering to businesses in Swansea and across south Wales with a more comprehensive suite of professional services.”

Rakesh Shaunak, partner and group chairman of MHA Macintyre Hudson, added: “Having built a fantastic reputation for providing high quality client service through impeccable standards of client care and technical expertise, we’re delighted to welcome Gerald Thomas into the MHA family. This merger represents an exciting expansion of MHA’s services into Wales and will help bring our growing sector expertise to a broader range of clients across the region.”

This comes several months after MHA MacIntyre Hudson acquired a majority stake in IFA company Cave & Sons for an undisclosed sum.
