US in the news: CI Financial buys Chicago advice firm

A round-up of people moves and M&A deals across North America

M&A

CI Financial

The Canadian firm has bought wealth and investment manager Gofen and Glossberg for an undisclosed sum.

Gofen will be CI’s third Chicago-based registered investment adviser (RIA) acquisition.

Focus Financial Partners

The partnership of independent wealth management firms has bought Missouri-based Mosaic Family Wealth for an undisclosed sum.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021, subject to customary closing conditions.

With office locations in St. Louis and Denver, Mosaic Family Wealth offers a range of services, including investment management, financial planning, business strategy and exit planning, estate planning, insurance, and tax planning.

Creative Planning

The wealth manager has agreed to join forces with retirement solution provider Lockton.

The merged business will be named Lockton Retirement Services, an offering of Creative Planning.

Lockton will take an equity position in Creative Planning.

The financial terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

People moves

Sanctuary Wealth

Miles Edwards has been named as chief compliance officer and general counsel of the wealth firm.

He was previously chief compliance officer and general counsel at Bruderman Brothers.

Cambridge Bancorp

The parent company of Cambridge Trust Company has expanded its wealth management team with five hires from People’s United Bank.

The hires are:

  • Robert Maquat – senior vice president and senior private banker;
  • Christopher Lucas – first vice president and senior portfolio manager;
  • Doreen DiBari – senior vice president and senior relationship manager;
  • William Fleming – vice president and relationship manager; and
  • Sharon Mathews – senior client services associate.

SVB Private Bank

The private bank has hired senior managing directors Natalya Alexei and Vishal Wadhwa.

Prior to joining SVB, Alexei and Wadhwa served as managing directors at Wells Fargo Private Bank, formerly Abbot Downing.

In addition to Wadhwa and Alexei, Thomas Abramo joined SVB Private Bank as a managing director.

Abramo spent 10 years with Abbot Downing, most recently as senior vice president, managing multi-asset class portfolios for family office clients.

Raymond James

Financial advisers Francine Payson and Tarek Salhab has joined the firm’s offices in Fort Myers, Florida.

As Riverview Wealth Partners of Raymond James, the team serves a variety of clients including families, retirees, business owners and healthcare professionals.

The advisers were previously affiliated with Merrill Lynch and are joined by client service associates Gail Siebenmorgen and Lynda Demarco.

Crestbridge

The firm has named Marta Ciemiega as business development director for the US.

Ciemiega joins from Sanne Group, where she was responsible for design and execution of North American business development strategy.
