US in the news: Wells Fargo makes wealth CEO change

A round-up of the latest people moves and M&A deals in North America

People moves

Wells Fargo

Jon Weiss, who most recently led wealth and investment management at the bank, will become chief executive of corporate and investment banking.

The company will conduct a search for a new chief executive, wealth and investment management.

Weiss continues to serve in the role on an interim basis until a hire is made.

The operation provides services to clients across Wells Fargo Advisors, The Private Bank, Abbot Downing and Wells Fargo Asset Management.

Comerica Incorporated

The bank has named Greg Carr as executive vice president of wealth management, effective 2 March 2020.

He will replace Michael Aust, who announced his retirement on 28 Jan 2020.

Carr joins Comerica from Wells Fargo Private Bank, where he served as senior managing director for the southeast region.

M&A

AmeriLife Group

The life, health and retirement solutions provider has acquired a majority interest in JD Mellberg Financial.

JD Mellberg helps clients develop and implement retirement income strategies.

Founder Joshua Mellberg, along with Dan Morgan, the company’s general counsel and chief compliance officer, will continue to lead the organisation from the company’s Tucson, Arizona headquarters.

Frontier Wealth Management

The Kansas City-based registered investment adviser has acquired Denver-headquartered Highwater Wealth Management.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Highwater Wealth Management has around $180m (£138m, €166m) in assets under management.

Captrust Financial Advisors

The wealth firm has bought Wilmington, North Carolina-based Fountain Financial Associates.

The team of 10 employees, including five advisers, joins Captrust’s wealth management practice, adding $654m in assets under management.

This is the fourth location for Captrust in North Carolina, including the firm’s headquarters in Raleigh, as well as offices in Greensboro and Charlotte.

Founded in 1998, Fountain Financial Associates was established by Vinton Fountain, who will be joining Captrust along with advisers Buck Beam, Brice Gibson, Chris Riley, and Bob Warwick.
